This Paper examines the crime of armed robbery under the
common law and Islamic law. It uses doctrinal method of
research in gathering and critically analyzing judicial and
statutory authorities, the Holy Quran and the Hadith,
among other sources, to highlight the similarities and
differences of the crime under the two laws. It concludes
that armed robbery is a serious offence deserving of the
punishment prescribed for it. The Paper recommends, inter
alia, that no armed robber should be allowed to retain the
proceeds of the crime. This will greatly reduce the
incidence of armed robbery in the society.
